Here you have it folks, plain and simple; Economic data (Real GDP) from 1979-2009, with events that I felt were significant (feel free to suggest others be added/taken away):





Pretty straight forward.. Red bars signify Republican control of the White House, blue is for Democrats. Not that it really matters though, since in most cases the president had to work together with a Congress that was usually controlled by the opposite party. The charts go quarter by quarter.

The data was transcribed from BEA statistics, and the events were added at my discretion, which was admittedly a bit difficult, sifting through all of the events that occurred and legislation passed over this 30 some odd year span. I probably omitted some important events that could have impacted the economy, just let me know if I did and I will fix it.

Feel free to draw your own conclusions, I would like to remain objective as much as possible..

Come on now.. Nobody likes the fancy graphs I made?

By the way, the 'Dot Com' bubble actually started in late '95/early '96.. My bad..

It's only meaningful if you inject congress into the equation. They have much more power than the President. It is thier responsibility to provide oversight.
