The American dealers have hardly any or non new cars left due to the bankruptcy, so if Congress aprovs extra millions it probable will all go to the Japanese dealers....wow great thinking of Obama and his advisors!

The Japanese car factories in the US will employee US citizens however. And the American companies will BUILD MORE.
So you are correct, it WAS great thinking!

GM sales up 10%, Ford posting its first positive sales in 2 years...

Things are looking up indeed. I agree, great thinking all around by the Obama administration in handling the auto industry.

Oh please, who cares? Those companies employ Americans here. Plus, if US auto manufacturers are getting left in the dust by the Japanese ones, maybe they should step up to the plate and make cars that compete better. Hmmm?

Its not about American jobs, its about saving the environment from the CO2 emitted by old clunkers. And its also about trying to sell GM and Chrysler cars, now that 0bama tied his political wagon to them. hehehe

It does matter. If you buy a GM, Ford, or Chrysler, most of the profits stay in the U.S. If you buy a Toyota or Honda, most of the profits go back to Japan.

Finally a smart person! All others just think and look just as far as Obama...and that isn't far...the CEO's money, part's and most of the money will go abroad!

But what are we supposed to do? People are free to buy whatever they want. Japan is an allied nation full of good people, its not like recipients of "Cash for Clunkers" are buying Chinese or Russian cars.

a big L for you.

i just read in the LA times business section today about the program.

top clunkers:
1. Ford Explorer 4WD
Ford F150 2WD
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD
Jeep Cherokee 4WD
Dodge Caravan/grand Caravan 4WD
Ford Explorer 2WD
Chevy Blazer 4WD
Ford F150 4WD
Chevy C1500 Pickup 2WD
10. Ford Winstar

top new cars(under the program)
1. toyota corolla
ford focus
honda civic
toyota prius
toyota camry
hyundai elentra
ford escape
dodge caliber
honda fit
10. chevy cobalt

Top Manufacturers (in cash for clunker sales)
General Motors 18.7%
Toyota 17.9%
FOrd 16%

US cars are competing. and the rest of those cars (not US brands) are still built here in the US. those are US jobs.

on top of that. if the over all point it to reduce dependency on oil and help the economy, why would you trade a clunker in for another gaz guzzler (which is what US brands like to push).

the impetus now lays with those US manufacturers to make more fuel efficient cars. make cars similar to the camrys and corollas.
the problem is that the US citizenry is enamored with big gas guzzling 4WD trucks and SUVs.

whose fault is it really?

as for the availabilty of cars, the abitlity exists to manufacture them, it was the demand that WAS lacking. thats all changed now and the numbers show it.

good try buddy.
