Liberals and Conservatives alike: What are your thoughts and opinions of the current budget deficits and spiraling national debt?

Here are my thoughts:

- The interest paid on the National Debt is the third largest expense in the federal budget. At $1 BILLION PER DAY, its time for our government to put aside big-spending, big program ambitions and concentrate on revenue generation, instead of steadily increasing tax expenditures using borrowed money, whose record-breaking burden will undboutedly cripple the nation.

- President Obama should set aside his Campaign Agenda and concede the fact that he is a war-time President during the Great Recession. Ideally, it would be nice for him to accomplish his stated goals during the campaign, as any President would like to do. But at this juncture in history, the President should acknowledge that his Big Spending Agenda is not prudent in this economic environment. As such, I believe Obama should come to terms with the fact that his legacy is destined to be determined by the state of the economy, not legislative victories such as taxpayer-funded universal healthcare. (ie. It's The Economy, Stupid!)

- President Obama should, without waver, veto ANY bill that lands on his desk that contains a single earmark. Wasteful spending is out of control and our Congress needs to be held accountable. Obama should distance himself from Congress and show that he has the fortitude to stand up to pilfering of taxpayer money.

*******************

What are your thoughts and opinions? I am particularly interested in hearing the liberal viewpoint, considering that Democrats control government. Of course, conservatives should chime in as well.

I am a libertarian, a REAL liberal , so I will "chime" in.

Deficit spending is immoral and should be abolished at once. It only adds to the national debt and should only practiced in times of unexpected extreme emergency. Like defensive wars, not to give away goodies or social engineering schemes.

The Debt is immoral. It, since we lowly citizens have been "legally" deemed human capital offered as security, is nothing short of human slavery.

The interest paid on that debt is our human bondage to the private bankers who own the Morgan Reserve, the private monopoly of our currency. We are forced into involuntary servitude to these Plantation Owners when our enlightened Godvernment spends more than it has. This business of collecting "interest" is merely a slave trade condoned by our Federal Occupying Force.

Furthermore, those divine intellectuals in Washington have no qualms allowing the private bank to counterfeit our currency whenever they feel the need to spend more than they can collect in taxes. This is nothing short of theft. It is immoral and evil in every sense. "Our" little dollars are devalued at the whim of the shylocks and their bloody printing presses who own this country. The only "liquidity" that these evil people ever really wanted was the blood of the masses in the streets.

Step 1: Line Item Veto power for the President.
Step 2: Replace the current failure of a tax system with a
Flat/Consumption/Fair type of tax system.

Step 1. Line Item Veto power for the President.
Step 2, Abolish the current tax system and replace it with a Flat/Consumption/Fair tax system.
Step 3. Stop sending Billions to nations that are not our allies.
Step 4. Reform all social programs so that those that truely need it get it and those that abuse it are removed from it and punished.
Step 5. Go after those that hire illegals, fines then jail time, deport those caught here illegally to the Yucatan.
The deficits and national debt will take care of themselves.
Too bad it will never happen.

Our National Debt is nearing $12 Trillion. Each citizen's part would be $39K.

What is really scary is the US Unfunded Liabilites (SS, Prescription drugs, Medicare Part D and Medicare) almost $106 Trillion!! That's $344K per citizen.

And as the OP said that the interest alone is $1 BILLION a day, the US Federal Tax Revenue is only about $1.7 Trillion. So if we just pay the interest, that doesn't leave a lot left for other the other mountain of bills we have.
