The Associated Press: PROMISES, PROMISES: A closed meeting on openness

PROMISES, PROMISES: A closed meeting on openness

Quote:
As Obama's first year in office ends, the government's actions when the public and press seek information are not yet matching up with the president's words.

"The government should not keep information confidential merely because public officials might be embarrassed by disclosure, because errors and failures might be revealed, or because of speculative or abstract fears."

Yet on some important issues, his administration produced information only after government watchdogs and reporters spent weeks or months pressing, in some cases suing.
So much for that "new" way to run Washington.

You are right. President Obama has not been as open as he promised. His worst failings, in fact, have been his defense of Bush's positions in court on the detainee abuses and on the violations of FISA. If he were open, as you and I expect him to be, we could finally get to the point where Bush and his fellow conspirators could be prosecuted.

But I notice you just like to harp on "he's not open like he promised" without delving further into what his actual failings are. Because then you'd have to admit how asinine it was to support Bush.

Did or has anybody stopped long enough in their blame Obama rants to consider that maybe, just maybe recent events have occurred or are occurring that simply are not meant for the public eye? Maybe, just maybe other people have a much broader view of the big picture?

While we claim an open society there are still things that must be kept closed. None of us have a camera in our bathrooms or bedrooms do we?

Well we can see the left jumped right in to hide behind a Bush. It's really too bad their messiah will never be man enough to take responsibily for his decisions or actions. It must be tiring to have to cover for him all the time.

hussein obama is a bald faced liar. He never had any intention for transparency. He knows his sheep are so far up his _ _ _ that he can tell them anything and they will still tingle up their legs for him.

Stroke of the pen, that's all it would take.

Bush and his advisors took secrecy to new heights. To Obama's eternal discredit, he is using some of the same rational and legal opinions established by his predecessor, as well as expanding secrecy to new levels. Both Bush and Obama have taken actions that tarnish our fair and open ideal of government.

Yes, yet Obama was the one who pledged transparancy and open views of government. You know, change you can believe in. Yet he has consistantly done exactly the opposite.
