Remember 40 years ago when the school day was started with the Pledge of Allegiance? I always thought we said the Pledge because we were proud to be American.
The more people come into our country, the more they want to change it into where they came from. I thought they wanted to be here because of what America is.
Now, here comes Obama, who wasn't raised in America, and he thinks we need to change everything. I'm sorry, he couldn't possibly understand how great this country is. I wonder, if he had been brought up here when he was a little boy, instead of attending Muslim schools and being raised in that culture, would he still want to make all of the changes to our country that he claims we need to make? Perhaps he would then know that we never have nor do we now need the government doing our thinking for us.
I hope that Obama and everyone that agrees with him, is beginning to realize how strong and determined the American people are when it comes to loosing any of our freedoms.
We haven't had a town hall meeting where I live yet, but when we do, I'll be there along with everyone else, to make sure my voice is heard.
BTW, I didn't say he wasn't born here, and he did attend school in another country.

I've been reading a lot of conservatives on C-D claim that they are losing their freedoms. Can you please explain this in detail?

Really? It's always been my impression that people who have lived in other places put America on a pedestal. That's why citizens of other nations immigrate to the U.S., because they understand the difference.

Several years ago, I had a friend whose family had legally emigrated from the Philippines during the late 70's when she was a teenager. She was one of the most passionate Americans I have ever met.

Find another argument. This one makes no sense at all.

Edit: As an aside, please take the time to learn the difference between "lose" and "loose."

The pledge of allegiance is nationalist, not patriotic.

Weak sauce.

How would going to school here for a couple more years have made him any more American?

Back when I was a kid, America was the good guy, we didn't attack first and we didn't torture.

Isn't that all we heard for the past 8 years?

Yes, but then it was actually happening (and still is - an outcome we warned about).

Bush broke the law by violating FISA. He admitted it. Obama is continuing it.

Bush violated habeas corpus - by snatching an American citizen from the streets of Chicago and throwing him in jail for over 3 years without charges.

Bush started a war against a country that was no threat to us based on fudged data (something that Obama isn't ending quickly).

Bush gave retroactive immunity (and Obama is continuing that policy) to companies that violated our privacy.

How does anything proposed in the health care reform debate come close to these violations of our freedoms?

The pledge is still said in schools. And many Americans attended school in other countries. How many years was BO schooled out of this country? Not many.

But, anyway, the most fervent pledgers that I have seen have been those saying the pledge as they were becoming citizens. You know, foreigners. Have you ever seen any swearing in ceremonies?

I am always proud when saying the pledge, BTW.
