The industry didn't just "move out"... they got chased out by the unions... they couldn't compete because of the unions... what did you think they were going to do? Oh, that's right... bailout... from the government...

What liberal policies are you referring to?

This is a disgrace and all they do is keep Democrats in power. What is they say about repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting a different result?

What are you talking about? The unions have done nothing but make wage and benefits concessions to the auto companies for the past decade. The unions had been working with the company to try to make it more viable to compete in the world marketplace. A marketplace, by the way, where other countries cover the health care costs of their workers so that that cost doesn't have to be factored into the costs of their country's products.

Actually they couldn't compete because their cars still use 60 year old technology.

The unions didn't threaten them not to hire good engineers and designers bud, that's all on them.

When you try and sell a product, and it turns out your product doesn't stand up to that of the opposition, you won't be able to sell it, and that was the real reason they failed.

Hell, they even brought Saab with them in the fall.

Actually, not even close. General Motors just moved downtown less than a decade ago. Ford is based in the suburb of Dearborn and Chrysler is based in the suburb of Auburn Hills.

The region, as a whole, is fine - high-end retail, vibrant town centers, some of the best schools in the country, McMansions as far as the eye can see, beautiful inland lakes...

It's just that little of the economy is in the city of Detroit itself, which causes some problems.

Detroit's problems have to do with the loss of US manufacturing.

If you look at Red States....they have less income, more divorce, higher teenage pregnacy rates, lower scholastic test scores, higher rates of uninsured.

And apparently they masterbate more often.

Granted, unions haven't helped, but they have little to do with industries beyond the automakers there.
Ah...no. Government entitlement, government dependency and union corruption killed Detroit.

Why do you always have to twist reality to serve your political agenda? Why can't you see that the world is not black and white?

Government entitlement and union corruption did not become major factors until the decline was faaaaarrrr along. Then, in desperate times, they filled the gaps. Before that, when industry was still humming along, they had a stonger balance with corporate interests.

But, the decline in Detroit started in the 1950s. Had far more to do with the introduction of suburbia. I'm sorry to ruin your black-and-white world view, but wherever you may have studied urban social science, it's not a valid conclusion.
