That's the same thought process behind private companies and why they need no restrictions on pay. It could be argued that the private sector, since it has more influence on the GDP than the government, has even more of a right to compensate it's executives to get the best of the best.

100% correct! If they were getting the best , but thats just it they are not ,look where we are today.
I thnik when they really look at fannie and freddie that it will be the scandal of the decade. Remember that congress had oversite o both and the congressional record shows that any audit before the crisis was blocked.
