This was not even comparable to 9/11 and those on the right are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. The better question you should be asking is why didn't the security officials in Nigeria & Amsterdam catch this guy in the first place?
By the way I don't remember Bush saying much about the shoe bomber either.
This is what the left doesn't get, even after this incident. We are still under attack.

I thought Bush said he would win the war on terrorism.

Now let me get this straight.

One guy sits on his hands, talking to school kids, WHILE THE COUNTRY IS UNDER ATTACK.

The other guy, gets informed that a terrorist was thwarted, informed of the information, and the country wasn't in imminent danger.

And you want to compare the two. Ugh, I pray for my country when it has people with brain function that low in it.

If we didn't need Bush then, we didn't need him at all.

So, is your stance that a failed terrorist attack, which could have been the first in a larger string of attacks, less important than a successful attack?

Is that your stance?

Failed attempt to down US-bound jetliner: kinda important

Friends kid hit by surfboard: of utmost extreme importance

Would someone like to explain why exactly this hypocrisy exists? Do liberals view a failed attack as less important than a successful attack?

This is a defining moment for the liberal left and their rationale for incessantly attacking GWB. Pony up with criticism for Barack Obama's response, or be relegated to the reputation you already have for being light on national security.

What's it going to be?
As the details surface and the commonality between the Fort Hood attack and this attempt become clearer one has to wonder who is asleep at the wheel in the White House.

This is a very good point.

Would anyone on the left care to explain why Obama made haste to exit the golf course over the child of a family friend, but didn't make haste to at least address the nation after the failed terrorist attack?
