It is so clear now what our system has become. The wealthy have a lock on our politics, and we can’t help but see it. It is in the way of getting anything done. It is blocking our ability to do anything about our urgent problems like health care, climate change, financial reform, and of course the low-wage, everything-to-the-top structure of our jobs.
The Bush presidency is a good example of what happens when corporations run the government. Do we really want them to keep running the country into the ground for their benefit?
I would love to see all corporate money outlawed from politics. But guess who writes most of the legislation and donates to our politicians. It would take a near revolution to get the corporations out of politics.
Too late. It was years in the making and it started way before Bush.
The US Government. Of the Corporation, By the Corporation and For the Corporation.
We have the best government money can buy.
We won't get it back, not now. Even the Dems are bought out.
I fully agree, and I believe this is one issue where you won't see a traditional partisan divide. The notion that 'money' given to campaigns is free speech and that corporations are 'individuals' with the rights to free speech that that entails is absurd and has had an enormously detrimental effect on the politics of this country.
However, just as is the case with the changes that need to be made to our electoral system to allow for a multi-party system, Congress is the body with the authority to change this and Congress benefits most from maintaining the status quo.

Until it no longer takes millions of dollars to get elected, you'll always see politicians beholden to corporate interests over the individual interests of the citizens of this country. With the advent of the internet, politicians really don't need to spend anywhere near as much on commercials as they did in decades past. It is possible that we will see more and more reliance on the internet as the main source of information for political candidates. I'm all for putting a cap on the amount a candidate can spend in order to make it a level playing field for all candidates. This way it will not require personal wealth in order to obtain higher office.

Do you mean like the insurance companies are running Obama's new health care program?
Thanks for giving me a good laugh, How do you propose this is going to happen! Never in our life time, I really don't think so. Corporate interests, will alwyas remain. But it is a good thought.
