I'm constantly amazed by the posts wishing for someone to be raped in prison. And a lot of the people who say it appear to think of themselves as civilized people. A lot of liberals seem to hope for someone to be raped in prison, as well. That doesn't seem very liberal to me.
And there's not even any selectiveness about it. I can see if someone raped someone else, that the mob mentality would take over and some people would hope to see the rapist get raped too. But the line is used constantly.
I guess for some people, rape is the appropriate punishment for any crime.
No, I don't wish rape upon anyone. That's ridiculous and mean.
However, I do think prisons are supposed to be horrible places, and I am neither shocked nor upset that horrible things might happen to you there. As it is, earning your keep in prison is considered 'cruel and unusual punishment,' so anything that makes the place more foreboding is probably good.
I think it depends on why the person is in prison. If they are locked up for assault, murder, rape or basically any form of crime in which they physically harmed or attempted to harm someone than I think getting raped in prison is a form of street justice and something they brought on themselves. Someone like that maybe needs to feel the fear, shame and physical pain of being a victim to truly feel remorse for their own crimes.
For other crimes like property theft or drugs, then no it is a cruel and unjust punishment.
No it should not be legal or ok. But then we allow the inmates to run the prisons. I call it poetic justice. They decided to live outside of the law. Then when they are the victim they so want the law to protect them.
There should never ever be a justification for rape. If one feels someone deserves to be raped, in my opinion, that puts your thinking on par with a rapist.
