Well, I love movie theatre popcorn and eat a tub of it when I go to the movies once a year. I've noticed that they do let you refill it. I refilled mine on the way out and ate it much later. It's still a ripoff, but I am getting more.
But like everyone else said; you are free to not purchase these items.
If these are services that you positively have got to have, your gona pay, if they are conveniences only, you can do without. We choose to pay for those conveninces we must have. Everything comes with a price tag these days. Usually when something says "free" THERE is a catch somewhere. You'll make up for the free believe me. Unwise consumers are ripped off all the time.
Dealership mechanics. Never get your car worked on by a dealership. They are WAY overpriced.
Automatic transmissions. They charge you at least $1000 more for a new car with an automatic transmission. Not only does it cost more to buy, but they break down more often than standard transmissions and cost a lot more money to fix and maintain. Not to mention the extra gas they use.
While we're on cars. New cars in general are a ripoff. Especially when you factor in depreciation.
Ocean front property. Less than half an acre for $400,000. Need I say more?

I used to work at a movie theater and one day one of my co-workers explained the tub holds a LITTLE more (maybe a SCOOP) than a medium bag. The big draw is free refills. I personally don't mind paying more for a tub if I know I'm going to eat it all.
Thankfully one local movie theater allows refills on EVERY size of their popcorn.
waits for the capitalist pigs to chime in to defend the above industries.
Ha ha!! What are you a 1950's Socialist? "Capitalist Pig"? Too much!
I see no mention of Credit Cards. The ultimate swindle!!! Maybe not a "mark up" per se.... but the fine print is a scam. 20% rate jump on the 1st late pymt., etc....
It's only a rip-off if you actually pay for it. I don't spend a dime on anything listed there.
well I do buy a glass or two of wine from time to time, but agree with you on the rest. We just don't buy...Same thing with movies on cruise ships now, they no longer are offered free in the staterooms, so my question is: why would someone go on a vacation and stay in their room or cabin to watch a movie? We can all do that at home.
I find the whole insurance industry suspect. You need insurance, you pay for insurance and for the insurance companies to maximize their profits they look for way to deny your claims.
insurance is a whole different thing..It isn't as simplistic as you make it sound.
