well, fat men can star in sitcoms and even be married to skinny, attractive women (how often have you seen the reversed?). in fact, I bet there are far more overweight male actors getting good roles than there are overweight female actors. the NFL has plenty of overweight men playing for them and being a big football player is practically a must (remember reading an article a while back about how HS football players are feeling the pressure to bulk up). for the most part, overweight men are no where near as scrutinized and ridiculed as overweight women. I think a man would have to be very overweight (say, a good 150+lbs overweight) before he gets the same negative as women who may just be 20lbs overweight. yes, a double standard exists

Didn't you get the memo?

One can be derogatory towards fat people and Walmart shoppers yet still keep their tolerant, progressive creds.

I think people perceive most fat men (most, not all)..as still relatively functional...fat men usually possess layers of fat on top of muscle...most fat women are just fat on top of, welp, fat.

So I think women view fat men as protective, intimidating to other smaller men...whereas, men often like for women to be smaller than themselves in every way..

Anyway, most of these generalizations are largely inapplicable anyway...I could never understand, and I still cant understand, how fat women can be so insecure and feel so pressured about their weight when men actually form ENTIRE CLUBS dedicated to their fondness of fat women. (BBW?). Fat men have no such luxury, unless they are both fat and wealthy. Unless this extremely rare scenario occurs, fat men are generally considered second rate to women's preference of muscular men.

I think it is mostly an issue of women perceiving a pressure that doesnt really exist...at worst, it is a matter of women simply not appreciating the fact that MANY men actually do OPENLY display their affinity for fat women; those fat women just take that affinity for granted while choosing to whine about the greener looking grass..

Thin people get the same flak. I am called a "bag of bones," and "toothpick." But then, they add "I wish I was as thin as you are." I have never looked at an obese person and wished to be heavier. I wouldn't want to be slowed down, develop diabetes, high blood pressure, have a big food bill, etc. I like having energy. Struggling to get up off a couch due to pounds of unwanted flesh isn't elegant.

You are so thin as to be considered a "bag of bones" (hardly speaks to being fit), but somehow you feel superior to an overweight person?
Sounds suspiciously like double talk.

And you hit the nail on the head, so true. Lifestyle changes, does work. But there are cases where heredity does play a part, as well as thyroid conditions. Healthwise, i see no difference in a Man being fat or a Women, unhealthy is just that, think heart health.
