former Moderate independent turned hard core Republican. Obama is the first "progressive" elected in my adult lifetime and I never truly understood how evil socialism was until seeing some of it enacted. (Well that and I also did detest Bush II). I still wish they'd chill a bit on the social issues, but I can live with making porn a bit more difficult to access a lot more than I can live with even more theft from my pocket for the undeserving.

Dude, you live in Alaska. You've been dealing with "evil socialism" way before Obama was elected.

Opinion: Sarah Palin Practices Socialism in Alaska

Ever heard of the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend?

Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation

Or are you one of those Republicans that is cool with socialism for you, but not others?

Nope, I totally agree with you on the Alaska/socialism thing. We're the most socialist state in the Union, and even with the whole rugged individual mythos, we are totally dependent on oil and state/federal government for our economy. That socialism, in many ways, stops us from diversifying our economy and we're going to pay for that big time. Of course the Feds owning the vast majority of this state and putting it off to development doesn't help either.

p.s. I detest Palin, she was a fraud since her days as a small town mayor.

I was a flower child in the 60's, so of course I would be a Democrat, but mostly to rebel against my parents.
By my mid 20's I had rethought that whole way of thinking.

Democrat turned independent. I believe the democrat party has gone to far to the left. I find there is very little I agree with them today and I dont trust the republican party either.

Republican turned Independent. Driven away by the post-2000 insanity/stupidity of the neocons and fundamentalist religious nuts, both of which seem to get worse every year despite constant re-branding.

Republican turned independent. The most on the right are too Progressive for me.

I think we basically have the Progressives and then there is everyone else. There is no ideological difference between Progressive Democrats or Progressive Republicans...they are of the same party and they serve only themselves while they destroy a nation, IMO.

Former Democrat turned Independent. Although I never voted a straight party ticket and looked at all candidates.

Dems got too liberal and the Republicans went too far to the right for me.

For a very long time time now I have voted for the lesser of two evils. And I can't stand either party or their pols. They are just out for number one and don't care squat about us. I wish we could get rid of the two party system and start over.

Always been independent. I think devotion to one political party is silly.

You don't have to register for a political party in my state like I had to in my former state so "switching" is only in the voter's head, here.

Unfortunately, I suspect if no one runs against Obama in the Dem primary, Dem voters will vote in the Republican primary.
