Even though they've hated us since day one, but hey. That's what we do.

WHY? I am 100 percent against this. What did Chile give to the US ever? What did they do for Katrina?

Where was the need for Chile to give to the U.S.? As for Katrina was the use so bereft of national resources that we required external support? Was the problems associated with Katrina due to a lack of money?

I don't think so.

But to answer the question.

Despite the U.S. role in subverting the right of Chileans to exercise their democratic rights by helping to subvert the government of Salvador Allende which resulted in almost 25 years of dictatorial rule and some of the worst human rights violations ever seen in the Western Hemisphere, Chile like many of our Latin American neighbors offered what they had, much of which was not needed.

We need to hold off aid until we see the results of the big wave passing through the Pacific and see what it does to the state of Hawaii and our pacific territories.

How about how they never retaliated for the horrors that the US brought upon their country? Pinochet is all on us.

They, like most nations, offered to help with Katrina. We did not accept any of it.

I think that's a selfish attitude, and a bit silly.

As for the Katrina disaster, the problems we faced weren't due to a lack of resources; they were due to our own ineptitude.

theliberalvoice, we had the resources and money to deal with katrina. We just had an incompotent and intolerant president. Chile isn't quite as fortunate and us as leaders of the free world need to set an example.

Correction, incompotent and intollerant Governor Blanco. It was her office that ordered state police to prevent volunteers of boaters and bus drivers from evacuating people from New Orleans after the levees broke. As governor, she was in charge of the state's National Guard and she did not use them. Instead she stood before TV cameras crying about Bush and the Federal Government. While she was doing that, other states hit by Katrina were going into action.
