[SIZE=2]An Idea I have been thinking about lately is the concept of "Welfare" and the anger it causes many people to see people not working and receiving money. I agree that we shouldn't reward lazyness nor criminality, but I do feel we should at least do something to help the most destitute. I think instead of welfare and unemployment, local governments should simply pour money into simple, spartan shelters for the poor and unemployed. Anyone who checks into these shelters recieves a safe, clean room with a Bed and a clock, as well as free meals in a mess hall. The best way I could describe it would be like a college dorm. The recipients recieve zero cash money, only the promise of shelter and food. This removes the possiblity of people using welfare for bling and/or crime which is a big complaint amongst anti-welfare advocates.
I think this would be a better solution to the issue of fiscal conservatism vs liberal compassion. The poor would still have a warm and comfortable place to stay w/ food while it would probably cost much less to administer than our current system. Not to mention the fact that becuase there is no longer the practice of individuals recieving money from the government, people would have no choice but to get jobs.
