If it were not for Teddy Roosevelt's respect for wilderness areas and natural pristine environments, we would not have the National Parks. The man had foresight which many here do not seem to have. If it were up to this bunch, there would be a fast food joint built on top of Old Faithful.

BTW, OP...the Washington Times is a rag owned by the Reverend Sun Myung Moon. I cannnot believe how many people still do not know that.

Some idiots in Washington are selling the deeds to the land beneath. I don't know exactly, but I heard about this trend back in 1999. so it's been going on for quite some time.

Is this happening in other countries as well? Or just here?

Here's an example of the disregard and disrespect that the right wing has for the environment.

Dems: Cheney affected harmful water policy - USATODAY.com

Cheney affected harmful water policy

An article in The Washington Post Wednesday said Vice President Cheney played a crucial role in developing a 10-year water plan for the Klamath River that courts later called arbitrary and in violation of the Endangered Species Act. Democrats charged that Cheney's action resulted in the largest adult salmon kill in the history of the West.

"The ramifications of that salmon kill are still being felt today as returns to the Klamath River are so low that commercial, sport and tribal fishing seasons have been curtailed for the past three years," Democrats said in a letter calling for the hearing.

We are moving as a nation, to what the USSR of the late 1980's and beyond has been like.

That sounds like fun!

I don't think this is a liberal/conservative thing. I think it is more to do with the corporate lobby looking for opportunities to exploit natural resources.

I live in a small town north of Phoenix. This is a very Republican town in a Republican state. But we are very supportive in keeping our national parks and national forest and not letting them get developed.

First of all, you should never trust any politician or corporation. They have only one interest in mind.

Secondly, if you really believe that this is all Obama's doing. All initiated by Obama. That these plans (if true) were just created and put into action, over the las year. Then, you need to do your homework and you need a serious reality check.

Put your partisan loyalties aside and wake up. They are all the same crooks, the same liars and same clowns.

Don't you people get it by now? No one actually gets anything like this done, unless there's a widespread conspiracy to do so. Certainly way outside of just Obama and his circle.

A secret administration memo has surfaced revealing plans for the federal government to seize more than 10 million acres from Montana to New Mexico, halting job-creating activities like ranching, forestry, mining and energy development. Worse, this land grab would dry up tax revenue that's essential for funding schools, firehouses and community centers.
President Obama could enact the plans in this memo with just the stroke of a pen, without any input from the communities affected by it.
At a time when our national unemployment rate is 9.7 percent, it is unbelievable anyone would be looking to stop job-creating energy enterprises, yet that's exactly what's happening.

story continues... DEMINT: White House land grab - Washington Times
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Continuing evidence of the penchant of the Oba-maniac to control anything and everything. Another "secret" memo for the administration that promised clarity and transparency. So how's this Hope and Change working out for you America? BUSINESS AS USUAL...that's how, except this time we have a Control Freakazoid at the helm of the Ship of State and from healthcare to the census, from banking to commerce, from free speech and opinion to the right to disagree...HE wants to be able to exert his tyrannical influence upon everyone. Boy is he ever going to be shocked come November! America has no place in it's government for despots. When Barack Obama told that crowd back in the Fall of 2008 crowd at a campaign event that, "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig,", I'll just bet he was lookin' into a mirror!

Cracks me up that anyone would think Obama is the mastermind behind such a thing.

Guy can't even get a healthcar bill passed because Congress is filled with crooked, thieving, corrupt weasels.

But yeah, he'll get this one done all by himself...hahaha

Not to imply Obama is not a crooked, thieving, corrupt weasel. That is.
