Asked to rate on a 10-point scale the extent a series of conservative figures embodied the principles underpinning the tea party movement, respondents gave the highest grades to flame-throwing media personalities including Glenn Beck (who earned the highest average ranking: 8.4), Michelle Malkin and Andrew Breitbart above conservative Republican stalwarts who have actively courted tea party support, including Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina (who scored an average rating of 7.9), Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota (7.8) and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (7.5).
John McCain is vilified among right wingers because he dared at one time to compromise with Democrats and oppossed torture.
They'll never forgive him for that. Even though he walks the line nowadays.
This is one radical group of hard core right wing nuts here.
Truth be told, McCain's loss of support has to do with his stance for amnesty for illegal aliens, his wavering stance on pro-life vs. abortion, and his overall record of voting for "big government". McCain is simply not a conservative; he is in fact, a progressive RINO.

B.S he votes in lock step with the GOP these days.
He's a right wing hack in words, votes, and actions since he started running for office three years ago.

These hard core radicals don't forgive.
The fiscal irrisponsibility and progressive "big government" expansion votes of the GOP are exactly why there are so many conservatives who are disappointed in it. If the GOP had been/was today on the right track there would be no Tea Party.
