Burgers as big as dustbin lids, coffins that need cranes, and obese children having heart attacks - it is the supersized U.S. town causing Jamie Oliver such despair

Huntington, West Virginia, is a small city nestled along the bank of the Ohio River. It has five parks, a famous college football team, dozens of churches, countless fast-food restaurants, a population of 49,000 and a mayor, Kim Wolfe, who rides a horse and delivered all of his eight children himself.

"wolfie" can get off the horse, and instead of delivering his youngins...start doing lap band surgery, and maybe run the junk food pushers outta Dodge.

The part about kids not being able to identify a tomato, and the fact that they don't have a produce or meat section in their supermarket made me sad

Unfortunately, I think this may be where a large portion of our nation is headed....

Ugh, this sucks. As a parent, I battle this every day. The competition is fierce. Even the school's "healthy" meal plan is absolutely atrocious. (I send my son with his lunch.) It's frightening. Full meals for kids today, are what we would have considered a treat--maybe once a month, maybe less--when I was growing up, not to sound like an old fogey. But it's true.

I mean pizza plus tater tots plus chocolate milk--oh, but it's skim chocolate milk! --all in an afternoon's work is anyone's idea of anything but a junk food extravaganza? Oh, but wait. There's a fruit cup in "light!!!" syrup too (although nobody eats it, so I guess I shouldn't worry about that one too much).

I can't believe that in the year 2010, schools are still serving that crap. It's pitiful. Good for you for sending your son to school with better food.
