I would recommend this:

Amazon.com: The Great Depression: America 1929-1941 (9780812923278): Robert S. McElvaine: Books

A very balanced look at the end of the Hoover years and the FDR years from a political, social and economic view.

Neither Hoover nor FDR are bashed nor is one lauded over the other.
I will add that several of FDR's New Deal plans were rife with greed and corruption as well based on who got appointed to run them.
Also, one of FDR's first actions after being sworn in was to bail out the banks.

Someone recommended the book to me and I was able to get it at my library. I highly recommend it as a good read on the Great Depression years.

If a plan isn't working..admit it and move on. Don't blame the failure of a current plan on a past President. Admit it didn't work and cut your losses and try the next thing.

At least FDR did that ..he didn't spend his time blaming Hoover. If a plan didn't work..he moved on to the next plan. He took ownership of his administration. Go read up on it..he was a great politician and DID listen to the people, mostly because he wanted to get re-elected.

As great as these statements are, it's a tragedy most people were expecting a "miracle" worker. No human being could possibly pull out from the mess that was left for this administration. I'll now quote myself from my post in the "Where the hell are all the jobs" thread...

A lot of people here on CD seem to believe they have the answers to all of our woes. Well, if this is the case, stop wasting your time here and run for office. Please. I look forward to all of your "quick" solutions.

And that about covers it.

You can only sugar coat it for so long, don't you know, then that sugar starts to melt, once this happens, there is no more surgar coating anything. Get it do they not know that we are laughing at them, excuses don't work, action works.

Since things are getting worse under Obama then what and who will they blame in another year?

The hypocritical left wants to give Obama credit for anything he does but when something goes sour they go right back to blaming Bush.

Obama has been in office almost 14 months and has ZERO accomplishments to his record. None of any major value at all.

His mistake a day routine is getting old.

He suckered Americans into believing the stimulus would get us on the right track when in fact is a miserable failure.

He was given a blank checkbook to do what ever he wants and of course he has made things worse, put is into more debt and weakened the economy further.

Bush has 4 YEARS of continued growth under his record, what does Obama have? The screw up mistake of pushing the KSM trial to happen in NYC and then changed his mind after the American people STOPPED HIM?

Miss me yet signs are all over the highway.

People have found that even with the mistakes Bush made he still did a pretty darn good job of keeping us safe, had 4 consecutive years of job growth and lead us past 9-11 like a real leader.

Obama, well, no accomplishments at all, embarrassing the US around the world, weakening our defenses, spending like a drunken sailor, mistake after mistake, one bad decision after another and the list goes on and on.

This is Obama economy, he owns it. He was given ample time and money to fix anything and yet he has not delivered.

If he cannot handle the job he needs to resign. He is that BAD.

Add record foreclosures and bankruptcies caused by his failure to create a single job even with a blank checkbook.

Obama is an epic FAILURE.

Speaking of foaming at the mouth nutballs...

Conservatives on here are still blaming Clinton and Jimmy Carter for the current recession. I can post links. The fact is, what the President does affects us in the future. Their decisions don't just disappear when they leave office.

I agree. Some of their actions are immediate and others take years before the true effects are felt or recognized.

I guess you hadn't heard, one in three Americans still blame Bush too. I can't wait either. This plus the last few months and weeks have well sucked for the Reps. Maybe they'll be voted outta existence. I mean, they'll have to retool at some point.

Stop WASTING your time it's Obama that ran for office promising the world.Your lame excuses for the last 14 months will be the same for the next 14 months.Obama is not the Messiah his followers believe, more like a dictator trying to force feed America his Socialist agenda. His main priority is taking care of his rich Banker friends, yes the same ones he cries about all the time at the expense of the American tax payers. He wanted the job and now he has it.Look at this story in California http://economy.freedomblogging.com/2...n-a-day/30609/ Unemployment in Calif. is paying out 100 million a day!!!Maybe this is more of the Economic "Green Shoots" Obama speaks of.

Liberals love to cry about both wars, guess what more hot air from Obama ,he has continued both of them.Where is that grand hypocrite Pelosi? She constantly ragged Bush about ending the wars and bringing the troops home, now she is silent? What a total phony. It's not a lot of people on CD and in this Country that believe they have the answers,It's that inept tool Obama that believes he has them. How's that HOPE(You can find a JOB) and CHANGE(Into a higher tax bracket) working out? What happened to this fool's prediction that Unemployment wouldn't pass 8% ??? Obama presented himself as that "Miracle Worker"He needs to stop worrying about Israel and needs to take care of his own problems here.Actions not more "FLUFF SPEACHES" are needed.Enough "Photo ops and more substance and results, too bad were going to have to wait till he's out of office.
