Obama Administration Ramps Up Enforcement of Labor Laws

The IRS plans to audit 6,000 companies over the next three years in a bid to crack down on companies that erroneously classify employees as independent contractors.

-----------------------------

I expected this to come, specially in the hair salon business. Almost every one is on a 1099, but actually under the tax law most of them are W2...

So expect a hair cut to go up in prize and more people unemployed, but this time IMO Obama is right to check it, since the law is clear and this in not a grey area, but misused by the employers and employees....

Any employer can use Form SS-8 to check if a workers is a W2 or 1099 and know before the iRS comes knocking on their door...

independent contractors, subcontractors, dodges lots of employer employee issues.
we import lots of cheap stuff tariff free, which makes it harder on american companies to play fair. "world market" is a nasty lie,
there is only 1 market its here and its up for sale.

Sounds like they are just looking to get revenue flowing into their pockets.
Why not go after the big companies that make billions and import the H1B's because "they can't find the skill" ?

Like to see him try it with the States and their political subdivisions!

Every State, County, City and School District in the U.S., "illegally" classifies their employees as "Independent Contractors".

I was able to get the GAO to look into it, whence they launched random audits nation-wide, and concluded that the Social Security Administration was losing about $18B a year from this intergovernmental tax fraud.

But that pesky 10th Amendment chased the IRS and SSA back to Washington, D.C.

Screw the Columbians, I say!

Keep them in their District near the Potomac.

Like Exxon that in 2007 paid 30 billion in income tax on 70 billion for net of 40 billion?

(yes, I need to get some recent numbers)

My full sentence was "that use H1B's....".

But, in further reading, H1B's have to get W-2 so my point was moot.
