Taking up 2 parking spaces and the operators not being able to stay in their lane. Mostly a city issue where older streets & bridges are narrower and parking spaces are precious. Think Boston or NYC's little Italy. Often construction/ repair zones leave you with 6" of wiggle room, near scrapping the guard rails to get by. Hummers take up 1-1/2 lanes, 1-1/2 parking spaces, and too many driving SUV class have no spatial sense of the right side of their vehicles. Cutting the wheel left to make a right turn as if you're a tractor trailer? Go on, blame the road. It was there first.
A hummer on the other hand is a deadly weapon and
(global warming aside) produces more smog and exhaust and just looks big
and 'honkin' and desperate for attention if you ask me.
I assume you're speaking of the H1, or maybe the H2. The H3, which is the most popular Hummer model, doesn't pollute any more than an average mid-sized SUV.
I don't think it is a conservative issue or a liberal issue, you either want to save gas, money and the environment or not, others may have a need for a Hummer based on location. A Prius is probably more practical in town, but not to practical for hunting, camping or a Montana winter.
why does this always turn into a tit for tat conservative vs. liberal? un damn believable.
I agree. I think there is a place for an Truck/SUV and a Prius. You can drive your Prius to work everyday and then when you move something or go camping, you can drive your SUV or truck on the weekends.
I own a truck and love it. It's not a raised redneck truck but just a normal Ford F150. I can't tell you how much abuse I get from my liberal friends and wife for owning it. At the same time, I've noticed I can't really tell my hunting friends that a Prius is cool since it just seems like a dumb sissy car to them.
I'm a libertarian so I drive what I wish and not based upon my politics. I drive a Prius as my daily driver. I have a 38 mile round trip drive to work everyday, so I like it for that. I have a Hyundai Santa Fe that I use for going up in the mountains. Soma of the places I go hiking or mountain biking require a 4WD to get to. Plus, in winter, that vehicle gets me everywhere I want to go. It's great for lugging my skis, bike, and hiking gear...and the dogs. Then I have my toy...a 2004 Corvette. That's just for fun and only drive it about 3,000 miles per year.
How do you explain then the large number of WOMEN who buy and drive Hummers?
Great response. I've had the same reaction in the past. I'm not sure how or why some people still think it's clever to say that a guy chooses his vehicle based on his penis size. It's such a tired old line - not to mention, childish.
With that said, here's more evidence that some conservatives see the Prius as the enemy:
Even though I don't buy a car based on it's looks I did grow up in an era (or 2 or 3) where the style/looks did matter.
Driving something that looks like a tank doesn't turn me on.
Prius = aerodynamic, efficient, travel, compact, versatile, economical
