Teachers striking in OC: When I read this in the LA Times earlier, I was seriously irked especially since I lost my entire 8th grade year due to teacher strikes. Shouldn't this be illegal because we are talking about TAX DOLLARS here that are paid by folks who likely have taken a hit through this recession! Why do teachers and other public employees honestly think they are exempt from the effects of the recession? I thought the purpose of the public schools was to provide an education for our kids so how could teachers have the audacity to strike? How can they live with themselves knowing the negative impact this will have on the kids? I am so disgusted. We seriously need vouchers NOW!

I'm all for vouchers and school choice. Unfortunately education is run by the Teacher's Union mafia.

Welcome to the world of liberal entitlement mentality.

The funny thing is those teachers cannot possibly back up their actions here. No matter how you slice it, the state is broke, California's unemployment is sky high and the public school system sucks as is. These teachers do not deserve a dime more until they start performing. Schools are there for the kids, and these selfish bastards think they are better than that.

Typical liberals, "I'll be genuinely compassionate and caring... so long as you offer me a lifetime job with superior benefits and pay that defies the economic recession and budget". Time to hit the reset button here and fire them all.

You want school vouchers in California? I think you're living in the wrong state.

The last time a voucher system was proposed, it was defeated by the voters 71-29.

Someone has to sign the Teachers Union contract.

That person, whether its the Governor, Mayor, city council, whatever, is responsible. Blame them for signing a stupid contract. Otherwise, if they aren't held to a contract, that allows them to hire non union teachers, then fire all of those that strike, and hire new ones.

I know lots of teachers who are looking for employment, right now.

You would think that what public schools are for. They are members of unions and its "union first" they don't like the idea of being paid on student education merits. Some not all teachers are not interested in educating our kids.

Why does everyone blame the teachers. Again, a public official had to sign their contract, deal with them.
