You do, huh? I guess in your utopia, you can go back to owning slaves.

Yeah we get it. You think employers should just get to decide what they are going to pay and the employees should just take it or leave. You think it should be like that because alot of you sheep in the private sector got rid of your unions so that's the only option for you. Thankfully some of us were smarter than that.

There's quite a few people on this website who have no moral qualms about wanting to return to the days of early-19th century US or Dickensian England of horrific exploitation and worker abuse...

Union jobs aren't the only jobs that pay well. The company I work for got rid of their union and we all make MORE and have the same benefits. The company has never made more money than they do now without a union. Our stocks are the highest they've ever been and they grew DURING this recession. Unions COST companies money and they keep the slugs around in high positions.
Alot of these folks would do away with the minimum wage altogether if they had their way...

You don't see the big picture of unlimited amount of contributions WM is trying to get the members to vote on. They can come back a year later and say we need to take $3 dollars an hour for health insurance. The smaller two companies in the region gave their employees better contracts. Waste is doing this every where. They are taking insurance away from their employees little by little. Are they lowering rates to their customers, the answer is no. I sign a contract a year ago saying my employer can't take no more than .25 an hour to make up for shortfalls if they need it to cover Health and pension. Why WM can't do the same for their employees. They are Number 1.

Oh yeah ... Especially the unemployed auto workers are probably glad that they stayed union. Sure as heck helped them out tremendously.

Chatteress another thing. It's the cost of living in Seattle as Kev stated. WM pays their Florida and Texas drivers half of the wages in Seattle. I guess you are ok with that. $13 a hour just like you prefer.

"has had" being the key words there. Nowadays the US unemployment rate is roughly the same as the EU now. And if we were using the "true" unemployment rate, we'd be much worse. And that was often the only thing that people could point as to why America's economic system was supposedly "superior" to Europe's LoL

No, the problem lies with those that are greedy. Just because a worker doesn’t have a college degree doesn’t mean their contribution to society isn’t needed. Garbage men perform a vital role within our society and in return they should be rewarded with a livable wage.
