I never take credibility in these "our country was so much better in my day" types because it's a crock of dung and us historians know this.
Time creates a false sense of nastalgia. There were vets in the early 20th century who glorified the Civil War. Of course people will naturally think things were better back in the day. I guarantee this guy when he was my age was hearing about how things were better in their day from his elders. This guy comes from a time when Obama would've been lynched for talking to a white woman. I find myself thinking things were great when I lived in Philly. Fortunately I have the gift to be able to go back and realize it was a false pretense. It's a craphole. But I was young and ignorant of things, so naturally it seemed better at the time.
I first saw this letter in an e-mail forwarded to me by my sister. It had the Snopes approval then so I accepted it. It is good to read it from time to time. The old man surely feels that he is able to write things like that for his heroic period of his life and I agree with that. It is too bad that we have had so many forget about what he says.
Who the hell is Harold Estes and why do I care what he thinks?
A very old man who the Navy thinks a lot of. You should be wanting to read his letter to The Man. Also, the words of Snopes and those that came after the letter.
You really should care what our old military heroes say and what they think.
