Wouldn't that mean that all of Ted Bundy's victims would have to be honored too? Not to mention the victims of Buono, Butts, Bittaker, DeSalvo, Ramirez, the Atlanta child murderer, and - most obviously - the victims of the Manson Family.

In practice honoring the victims of serial killers would result in Sharon Tate being honored and no one else. After all, she was beautiful and famous....

Matthew Shepherd's murder was horrendous and an atrocity. But I don't think he deserves his own holiday. (Nor do I think Sharon Tate or any of the other murder victims mentioned deserve their own holidays, although if any victim of a serial killer got honored it would be Sharon.)

But do you feel that he should be honored? Jesse Dirkishing's death was every bit as horrendous as Shepherd's was and was very similar in scope.

Realistically - Tate would be more likely to be honored than Dirkhising. The reasons should be rather obvious.
