Despite what the gold merchants will tell you prices have been pretty flat and in several areas have declined since early 2008. So while there is probably some inflation it is very marginal.
Shadowstats shows about 9% or so. Sounds about right.
Caught a sample of that at the supermarket yesterday...Kraft Pasta stuff in a box (forgot exact name) had "New Packaging". New box, new design, new colors..and.....NEW SMALLER SIZE..6.6 vs 7.7oz but no change in price.
I said .."Goodbye Kraft..it was nice eating that pasta and bought the Betty Crocker version still at 7.7." I even sent an email to Kraft and said they had nice new packaging but I saw the smaller size and they should have been more upfront and said "new package, smaller portion".

No kidding. I wish that the gov't would make them state that smaller portions/sizes prominently on their labels. There are many products that are now smaller than before.

9% is about 9.7% too high at least according to the 2009 stats from CIA world factbook and 5.2% higher then their 2008 figure.

I got my eyes out for this now...every "new package" is smaller or more full of air. It's total marketing BS
Apparently the grocers didn't get the memo because they keep raising prices.
