Here's a better quaestion. Why is the left so concerned about race? All the left talks about anymore is race. Is it the goal of that side to drive the racial wedge between the American citizens?

I think that it is a matter of perception with some. Whites recieve, in absolute numbers, more than blacks in welfare benefits because there is almost a 6 to 1 white to black population. The perception that blacks are the "welfare class" though is because of the percentage of those within the given races is so vastly different. Whites on welfare represent about 13% of the white population while blacks on welfare represent nearly 30% of the black population.
So, it is as if people use the higher percentage, or more correctly probability, that a black person is recieving welfare than a given white person is the cause for the perception. But the overall poverty rates for the different races is almost identical to the likelihood of being on welfare as well.
In total numbers, although not by probability, whites are the ultimate welfare race though.

first off, thanks for the "90%" insert there...you could have been like most others and say "ALL"...
second off, welfare is a huge problem...and correct me if i'm wrong, but the majority of folks on welfare are minorities, and the majority of those minorites are Black.
with that being said, if discussing why Black voters are overwhelmingly voting Democrat, then welfare would play a significant role in the discussion. and it's a problem b/c there is fear driven into uneducated minorities that voting anything other than Democrats will only make their living conditions worse...it's sad, b/c i would bet they feel their hands are tied, and although their living conditions aren't exactly improving, they probably have a hard time with who they are to believe.
what you'll find outside of C/D, is that there are many Conservatives that are concerned with the poor, and have differing ideas on how to improve their situation. Welfare needs fixed, there's no denying that...what they don't need is more of the same, which has been attention only during election season. then after elections they seem to fall off the map...
