Meanwhile their good buddy comrade Obama wraps up a weekend of golfing and interview with Costas on the White House hoop court (He thinks Lebron should go to Chicago) and heads out west to raise money for dems.

Oil tax increase would help pay to clean up spills

Why not, Republicans wouldn't allow the caps to be raised on Oil company liabilities, so their financial fiduciary even if MAXED out will be capped @ $27M. We all know with the depth of devastation it's gonna cost much more than that.

People on the right, want Gov't to do something. Since in all likely hood the American people will never see that $27M, and apparently we're all pushing Obama to do something, you have to have a way to pay for it, since you won't let BP pay for it. So that makes sense.

It's called consequences & actions.

Maybe you should read the article before spewing your tripe.

Didn't Obama promise no new taxes on the middle class? How will he reconcile his promise with the will of Congress to rape and pillage wallets of the middle class at the behest of Big Oil? It sounds like this proposal is the antithesis of everything Obama stands (stood) for. Any liberals care to opine about how the President should approach this particular conundrum?

The increase would raise nearly $11 billion over the next decade.

I'm surprised the gas tax brings in so little.. this equates to $275M a year nation wide in taxes currently. Isnt this gas tax supposed to pay for things like road maitenance? We spend far more than $275M a year on road maintenance...

LOL, how much is each company capped at paying? The entire fund has approx $1.5b, but if the clean up costs as much as analysts are say between $10-$14 BILLION, that $1.5b isn't going to do much now is it?

How's that tripe floating for ya now? You can keep on obfuscating and attempting to place blame elsewhere, but BP and the Republicans that are protecting it are just trying to make the American taxpayers pay for their negligence and malfeasance.

While certainly no fan of Obama, I am a fan of accuracy in reporting stories.

This story has to do with a tax per barrel of oil, and it works out to be an increase per gallon of $.0057. The current tax of $.08 per barrel works out to $.0019 per gallon, and the tax increase would make it $.0076.

Ever heard of a lawsuit bogeyman? Maybe you should just read links before you spew jibberish like most left handers.

Who are these analysts? Your gloom and doom crowd. Sit back and wait for a hurricane and cleanup is free.
