I was shocked when I heard Clark Howard talk about this "creepy new technology" today. I had never heard of it. Apparently, the cable TV company now has the ability to electronically enter your home and set your TV set and DVR to do what the cable company wants it to do. So if the cable company does not want you to record a certain program or wants to disable the AUX outputs on your TV set, they have the ability to do so. And as of today, they have the right to do so says the FCC!
For now it is limited to "new release high def movies" but how much do you want to bet that soon you will not be able to record ANY movie off cable or satellite?
Coming to your TV: New movies still in the theater

First of all they can't enter your home w/out permission. But they don't have to. Cable & Satellite (Sat is owned by Cable operators) have the ability to do it through the boxes they provide their services through. They have for a while. They can monitor what you're watching, when you're watching it and if you're stealing cable. I know, while in finishing my grad degree I worked for a Cable provider in a regional and then corporate HQ. While at the regional HQ I had to work in their head-end dept for a bit to learn the operation. I was amazed at what they were able to do, and see and monitor. It really is scary. The phone companies have been way ahead of the cable guys for many years. The domestic spying by the NSA on American's was not the first, just the first time the NSA asked for it, and paid to have it done.

The cable police won't get me. I haven't had cable in over a year.
The internet police will get me instead.

The cable co's have out-high tech'd themselves. The good ol'fashioned set-up gets around most of their protocols.

i'm with you on the cable provider in control of their equipment, i returned my time warner dvr, now i watch hulu, and go to the websites of the shows i like to watch.

but i do everything to protect my information, because as crazy and conspiratorial as it sounds, its very possible, and not far fetched.

there are dvrs that are smart enough to prevent fast forwarding through commercials. there are tv's that are smart enough to bleep words (v-chip)

for now i will work to keep the cable company honest, and my firewall set to incinerate.

At least where I am, I don't think cable is doing anything underhanded. Seems like the DVR does a great job forwarding through commercials and records everything I set it to record. Everything else it's supposed to do gets a C- at best.

I believe it was Uncle "Grady" not Brady. And yes he was overseeing the household when Red Fox was on strike.
Speaking of Brady, I never cared for the Brady Bunch. It was just cheesey and boring.
Now a show I've been writing TV Land to put back on is the A Team. Now that was a hell of a show.

It was Grady.

But I have to say that TV Land has kind of turned its back on its fans. Look at what they were doing when they first signed on and look at what they are doing now. It's still good, but it's not the same.
