the S2000 was one of the purest examples of a modern sports car available. but i'm sure you know, sports cars aren't about going fast in a straight line.

You're trying to say a 3700 pound, front wheel drive luxury-sports sedan is going to outhandle a 2800 pound, rear wheel drive purpose-built sports car?
I second the Credit Union for loans on used vehicles. The rates are much more affordable than going through a bank, dealer or online lender. And although Porsche's are known to be high-maintenance vehicles with expensive parts, Consumer Reports has consistently rated the Boxster as one of its most reliable cars for the past several yrs.
Unless you're buying certified pre-owned and adding on an manufacturer's extended warranty, I don't think a third-party warranty is a good idea. I've heard lots of stories of claims being denied. Definitely, head over to Rennlist and ask other Porsche owners what their long-term experiences have been.

Hi Mr. DEZi, I like you am thinking of buying a Porsche, and I have run into the problem you seem to be having. I don't know if some of these people just don't want anyone else to buy one or what, but they really try to talk you out of it. Jealous I guess, I noticed when it's a naysayer, they can never give specifics, that's a tell tail sign to me that they don't own a Porsche, have no idea of what they are talking about and are just repeating what they've heard. Some good info I've gotten is, CPO's still have some warranty so that saves you from any major problems up front, always get a PPI by an independent mechanic, some years had IMS/RMS failures, you'll need to look into that and figure out if you want to take the risk. I've heard less than 1% of these cars are affected. No matter what, it's a Porsche so repairs are going to cost more than your average car but, it's still doable, at least I think so. Repair pal, has lists of how much repairs will cost in your area, check them out. Also make sure you have a reliable independent Porsche mechanic in your area who you can turn to when needed. So Good Luck, do your research, and enjoy your Porsche.
Whoever said this car will hold its value was right. I'm looking at the CL listings for 2006-07 Cayman S and they are all selling for $30-35k which is MORE than what Mr. Dezi paid 3 years ago.
I picked one up a year ago at 60,000 miles full service history, put 15,000 daily driven miles on it, i purposely drive the long way to work and avoided the freeway all year, made that mistake taking it up Torrey Pines hill the first day I drove to work at "reasonable" speeds
I see no reason to ever sell this car, and aside from oil change I did myself and the $150 air / oil seperator (THIS is the big cloud of white smoke, almost harmless) it just runs, always turns on first start, no electrical gremlins, so well put together. With the flat 6 cylinder boxer engine Caymans coming to end moving to 4 bangers, expect this car to appreciate like an air-cooled, mid-engine 911..oh wait... Check back on this thread in 20 years Porsche sells very little of this model car, magnitudes less than to Cayannes, Boxers and 911s.
if you want to have some real fun with the car, remove the factory gas pedal delay with a SprintBooster chip and turn off traction control, car is easy to drift any corners whenever you feel like mashing on it... always under control
Now I will say after owning an poorly maintained German car (Audi TT) this is the only thing you need to know "A cheap German car will be the most expensive car you ever own" <-- Take that to heart as it the truest thing you should know...get that service history.
