There are numerous lakes around the city, some along St. Lucie West and another on Airoso and yet others behind Sam's on Lenhardt Road and I was wondering if those land locked lakes can be fished? I have not seen anyone fishing them but they are all around the city and might be a good resource for those without a boat or simply wanting a quick fishing trip.

Not sure about the ones one Lennard by Sams Club but a bit north of those off Lennard and Hillmor there are lakes at The Wood stork trail on Hillmor between Lennard Rd and the St Lucie med Center. Also in the same area in East lake Village there are two lakes a smaller one you can see at the corner of Hillmor and Grand Dr , and if you turn right on grand ( coming from Lennard ) go another street , turn left and there's another lake on KORONA and Grand .
You can and I have seen people fishing all of these lakes .....

I have seen people catching Bass and Talapia in those lakes . Also in the Woodstork trail/ Hillmoor lake park there are a couple of fishing piers( covered) and there's usually a medium size gator around one of those piers

Newred5, thank you. I was assuming that the areas off bounds especially the ponds at the Cascades, etc were off limits - pardon the pun, because the communities did not want beaten paths created by fishermen around their lakes. There seems to be a nice big lake behind Walmart in the West, called Lake Whitney and it looks to be the perfect place to practice my fly fishing technique, I am had all my fishing gear in mothballs for the last 2 years since we moved from Louisiana. Now just starting to get out after the sudden death of my son, Walter in July 2014. Need to shake out the depression and dark thoughts.

Off limits , good one Sid ..... Your welcome to fish anywhere around East Lake Village , just take any trash back with you when you leave, I'm SURE that would be an issue with you at all.
The lakes/ponds in The Woodstork trail/Hillmoor lake area is a city park so that open to all and even has couple of covered piers as well. There's also a model sailboat club that races the boats around the lake a few days a week

tilapia? I thought that was an African fish and not native to US waters-even invasive and not wanted here? Am I getting it mixed up with a different fish?
