From time to time various people that I meet comment that it is less expensive to live in Martin county than Port St Lucie. Is there anything to this claim? The water bills here in Port St. Lucie seem high here.

I've heard the exact opposite , it's possible the millege rate is higher in St Lucie County but the home values are less
Sales tax in Martin County is also lower

When I sold my home there, the taxes tripled for the next guy. The save our homes build up goes out the window w/ a new owner. I wonder how many agents actually explain that.

that easy to explain ... you bought the house at one price and took over the taxes from the last owner...till the city re-appraised your taxes on your new purchase price.

Same thing happened to the people who bought your house. Also, if they didn't have homestead before they couldn't have it until the following year. It would also depend on if they owned another house elsewhere and purchasing yours now became an investment house at full taxes

LOTS of variables
