Hello all,

My girlfriend and I are planning to move to Maine next year. We are excited to move to Maine and get away from the hectic and very expensive Long Island community. We have been looking around Falmouth and Windham areas.

Our main concern is is finding a job for my Girlfriend. She is a labor and delivery nurse of 5 years. She would like to stay in her particular sector. I see there are a few hospitals in the area (portland, lewiston and bridgeton (spelling probably incorrect)).
Does anyone have any insight on the nursing job market? Also rough amount of time from interview to higher. Here in NY it can take months for the hiring process.

Last question would be; is the mosquito and fly season as bad as they say near the coast? Or is that just more inland?

Thank you everyone for any insight!

Hi GSD3,

I made that same move myself, but it was back in 1979 after graduating high school, things have changed in both places quite a bit since then. I did work with buyer that was a nurse a few years back, they now live in Falmouth. It took her some time, but she did find work at Maine Medical Center. I'm not sure what her specialty was. Her husband is a brewer for one of the small microbreweries in Portland, I understood his work a bit better.

I don't think you'll find black flies to be a problem in Greater Portland, mosquitoes are present, but controllable.

Thank you for the insight. We may have to look for a job much sooner then the potential move.
