Hi guys,

I have done a search on legal markets in Portland on this forum on found this: Portland Legal Market.

The feedback given is that the market is pretty tough. However, the thread is 2 years old. I was wondering if anything has changed since then? I expect not much, but thought I'd ask anyway.

I'm an average law student in an average law school, but with a pretty broad range of pre-grad experience in both trial and appellate level court system. I'm not looking for any big law or corporate firms. My focus will be on mid-size to small or boutique firms handling family law. I can't decide whether to go into family or prosecution. How is the market for state/government legal positions?

Thanks,
Abby

I know the government positions (Portland/multnomah county) have been hemorrhaging positions this summer. The junior defender there I know has been complaining about the workload.

Might try it if you can.

Wow Abby, I could have written your post myself as I am in the exact same situation as you. I'm looking to make a cross-country move to Portland after graduation this year, but scared to death about the market. If you are interested in keeping in touch, and maybe helping each other out in the search- send me a private message and I'll give you my info.

Did you ever move out there? I'd like to hear your experiences regarding the legal market since then. Very interested for a follow up! Thank you, if you're still out there!
