I will be moving to the area in January, and I would like some tips on where I should start looking for a home. I am looking for a high income, low crime area with great schools. Can anyone point me in the right direction please and thank you.

There are lots of nice areas in Portland metro. You really need to be more specific. Information needed should include the general vicinity of where you will be working - commute matters. What is your housing budget?

Thank you for the reply nell. The commute does not matter, I only will be in the office one maybe two times a week. I would like a yard, so the downtown area I imagine would not work. My budget is up to $820,000.

That would be Vancouver, Washington.

Actually there are homes in your price range with yards in both the Chapman and Ainsworth grade school enrollment areas. West Sylvan Middle School is excellent. Look west of NW 23rd and (which includes Hillside), Arlington Heights and the Council Crest neighborhoods.

Evidently Lincoln High School was resting on its laurels, West Sylvan is its feeder middle school. They got a slap back for not addressing the needs of what were evidently transfer or ESL students and not building on the academic skills of the successful students. The parents of the latter group expect that their kids make the first cut at very selective universities. The pressure is on big time.

Do you want rural or urban?

Have to say Lake Oswego sounds like your best bet; fulfills your initial requests. There are many "nice" areas of Portland, however, and I agree with EnricoV, they are all nice!

Most areas of Portland and the suburbs would work for that price range. There isn't really typical bad neighborhoods. Definitely depends on what you are looking for specifically, though much of this can be answered with some research on Zillow and doing a little neighborhood search for listings you like. Then from there, a real estate broker should be able to help you with the rest.
