just was told that the P0420 code was that of a bad catalytic converter. I need to leave tomorrow for a 1300 mile trip, car has been driving fine, will I make it if I go? or should I not drive vehicle?

Unless I miss my guess you didn't mean this for the Portland forum. I'm no mechanic but afaik the catalytic converter has nothing to do with the driveability of your car. If you get pulled over for a random emissions test OTOH you might want to be prepared to do whatever it is people do in those kinds of situations. FWIW.

I say take the car on your trip. Once the wheels start rolling you won't even think about the car.

Before you make the drive, visually check over the motor. Trust Me!! I was stuck in California for several days because a belt snapped and caused other problems on my buddies car.

Depends on what is bad about it. I lost my Jaguar to a bad catalytic converter. It caused a fire.

There are usually two Oxygen sensors one before and one after the catalytic converter.
Check those.

If one is bad, that may generate that fault.

If you are sure the cat is bad, buy and install a new one.
They are usually less than a hundred bucks.

Your peace of mind is worth it.

OOPS, three day old post and he said he was leaving on the 28th.
Never mind

One to worry about is P1080; that means you need a new TV.
