We purchased a home in Clackamas Co a month or so ago and just received a letter from the above office. It has a form that states they conduct an annual study of property sales and to please complete the form.

Some of the questions.......
  • Was the price you paid a fair value?
  • When did we agree on a sale price?
  • The details of our loan....down payment, monthly payment, interest rate, etc.
  • If we assumed the mortgage, delinquent taxes, etc.
I'm ok with basic info but I am not sure what we pay for an interest rate is something they need to know.

I've received a letter like this on our previous home purchases...so I was wondering if anyone had any insight?

Thanks,

Clackamas County is a cluster f#ck. Throw out the letter, it's none of their business, and if you give them the information they will no doubt make it available to the public.

They use the information to make sure their assessments are on-track. Real time information is more valuable than trying to figure out what local property is worth by using Zillow.

Your tax rate is set by law, Op, not by the survey the assessor is taking.

I don't mind sharing some basic info but when they want to know how much my down payment was, what the monthly payment is and what the interest rate is, I'm not sure I understand how that plays into the property value. Some of the questions are fine but others I'm not ok with.

Maybe I can just send back with the info that I'm ok sharing

They are trying to see if they can assess any more tax on you.... I wouldn't answer any of them.
