I've reached a crossroads in my life. My friends are all moving away from me (for San Francisco) leaving me in a precarious situation of having to rebuild my social circle effectively from scratch. And with that, I've decided to relocate myself and have set my sights on the great city of Portland.

I've been running a few scenarios through my head which will soon be committed to paper to assist me in making this go as smoothly as possible.

I'm going to be visiting in mid to late May after going with my friends to San Francisco and I'm going to use my time in Portland to familiarize myself with the area, as well as attempt some networking through YPOP, Toastmasters and the Portland Chamber of Commerce as well as trying to initiate informational interviews with some local companies and some recruiters. I'll be making a second visit in late July-early August for hopefully for interviews and to secure an apartment if all goes well.

As for the gloom of Portland, I particularly enjoy that kind of stuff. Last May it rained for 28 days straight here (mostly gray skies and drizzly every single day) and I absolutely loved it.

So, aside from the thing that I think I have mostly thought of, any advice for a soon to be Oregonian?

None. Sounds like you'll fit right in. Bring your raincoat.

Anyone else think that city-data forum/Portland could support a Newcomer's Club?
