I think it should be a lot more than Water and Millennials . Well, headlines like this from CNBC will cause even more people moving to Portland soon.

I'm pushing back in preparation for lack of affordable housing.

Seems like a dumb story.

I have yet to hear anyone say 'My wife and i were concerted about future water supplies so we packed up the station wagon and moved to Oregon." Further, there is more water in the upper midwest.

This is a pretty short article and I don't see any data proving that millennials are buying more real estate in Portland than boomers or gen Xers. I do think more Xers are buying in the Portland market and retired, out of state boomers. I honestly don't think residents of Portland moved here for water but that's just my opinion.

Portlanders pay an arm and a leg for their water.

I'd have to double-check the bill, but I think technically we pay an arm and a leg for sewer.

What is a typical Portland household bill for water and/or sewer?
I do not think the water/sewer bills in Milwaukie are much different than similar bills I paid for houses I owned in WI or IL.

For a HH of 3, I think we've been running around $100/mo, and that's without any outdoor watering.

Portland's version of the Big Dig is what is driving the water/sewer rates (incidentally one city councilor spent some sewer money foolishly). We have/had a combined stormwater and sewer system. The city had to separate them because the system would overflow into the Columbia and Willamette. The city must also cover our several open reservoirs. It all adds up.

That chicken is coming home to roost in other cities now. DC is paying 2.6 billion to fix their problem now.
