Have you been a patient or had a child in for surgery at Doernbecher's? How was your experience? I am looking for any and all info to help me make a decision for where to take my daughter for heart surgery. Live in Idaho... looking at Seattle and Portland... thanks in advance!

I personally have not had to take my child there but I can tell you that I know a couple of people who have and the hospital is top notch! Both families have nothing but good things to say about the hospital and the staff that is there.

I don't have first hand experience, but this institution is the "go to" hospital for serious and emergency children's medical issues. It also seems closely aligned with OHSU which is one of Portland's best medical facilities.

I think it's one of the best in the area, but I am very biased towards them. They are actually operationally part of OHSU, that spans the valley where the main OHSU facility resides and where the main VA building resides.

You may also want to check out St. Vincent's. They are highly regarded for adult cardiac surgery, Doernbecher really focuses on the care of children so the skill sets may well be different.

My youngest daughter went to Doernbechers for a VSD, they were WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!! She was borderline surgery and had we have done it, definatly would have been done there! The entire staff was extremely knowledgalbe, kind, and incredible with the kiddos and families alike. amazing people. We also had the pleasure of having their pediatric kidney specialist on my daughters case 2yrs ago also. Same treatment. Id go in with full confidence.
