I'm visiting next month - so excited - and was wondering about the weather. I mean I know the averages and whatnot but I'd rather get a general 'feel' from people who live there.

Will it be too hot to roam around the city virtually all day long? Is the sun intense this time of year? (Here in FL it's unbearable.) If it rains/showers, does it cool things down at all? (Here in FL it makes it humid and gross.) I'll probably have more questions so stay tuned and thanks in advance.

July is generally one of the best times to be in Portland. We do have our share of hot days..sometimes reaching into the 90s and many homes and businesses are not air-conditioned..so that can be tough. But the evenings and mornings are always cool. Normally, we are in the 70s and 80s...and you should be fine. But in this climate, be prepared for anything. Bring a jacket and some long pants just in case!

90s in Portland, which are rare, bare no comparison to 90s in Florida. It is usually dry, and to the extent there is some humidity, it will be inperceptible to someone from Florida. You will be able to walk around without any problems.

Thank you both! I had to move my trip to the beginning of August, though the weather will probably be the same as what you described. Another question for you I have is that my hotel is in the Nob Hill area - SW King Ave. Is this a safe area for walking around at night?

Yes, though you're right off of Burnside, which is a busy, not very pedestrian friendly street. You'll want to head down towards downtown when you walk, or cut over onto NW 23rd or NW 21st, where all the night life will be. Burnside is SAFE, it's just not the most pleasant street to walk with all the cars zipping up and down and narrow sidewalks.

Thanks oldintype. I picked a hotel just outside of downtown because I'm a really light sleeper. Would you say this Burnside area can get noisy at night? We'll probably be turning in pretty early.

If it's the hotel I'm thinking of, it's a block off of Burnside and isn't too loud. We actually stayed there one of the first times we came to Portland.

It's probably the same one. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
