I was out in the Prescott area last year looking for a future home. I found what I wanted and will be moving to Prescott some time this summer. While out there I came across several roundabouts. I think here in NY they're called traffic circles, but I'm not sure. Still, I never have encountered so many of them in NY or even when I was in other parts of Arizona earlier last year. I can understand the advantages of them (no traffic lights), but I almost caused an accident when going through one in the Cottonwood area. I know there are at least a couple of roundabouts in Prescott Lakes where I will be moving. Of course, it's a lot easier if you know where you're going. But even with my GPS, I failed to yield right-of-way at the one in Cottonwood.

Does anyone have an opinion of the roundabouts in the Prescott area?

I like the roundabouts. They keep the cars moving and they decrease the chance of major accidents. If someone is in the roundabout, they have the right-of-way. The person entering the roundabout always has to yield to any vehicles in the roundabout.

I have no issues with them.

If you get bored, you just keep going round and round and round a bout.

I nearly hit a pedestrian who started walking into my lane while I was in the round a bout. I thought surely she would back up out of the way, but she did not. I threw on the brakes and she threw up her arms, like "what the hell?" Was she wrong or was I? Do pedestrians have the right of way in rounds too?

If she was in a crosswalk, then she had the right of way. In any case, I sure would not want to hit a pedestrian - even if I did have the right or way!

So there ARE crosswalks in roundabouts??? I did not see one. And I did not think she had the right of way, since I had to keep going or cause an accident in the round, with other cars coming at me. Maybe I need drivers ed. LOL

you had to use your GPS to navigate a roundabout???!!!

roundabouts/traffic circles are an ingenious traffic engineering device.....incredibly efficient if used correctly.....and there is only one rule you need to know:

as you approach the circle, always yield to traffic already in the circle (do not blindly enter)....you may roll right in without stopping if there is nobody already in the circle....
