McCoy was looking good at the QB position and the runing back, they beat the Pats, the Defense played well and he gets fired? When you take a Browns coaching job I thought you are given 3 years to turn the franchise around?
But again, they beat the Saints, Pats, took the Jets to OT, and he is canned? What are the expectations for this franchise now? SB?-lol
I am a Jets fan and I can tell you its a good thing that he's gone....
For all the Mangini lovers, didn't you see/pay attention to what happened in New York before he signed on? Also, this is a results business...5-11 in 2 seasons is not good.
Cleveland does have a good QB and RB (which is a good thing..) I don't know about Holmgren and his control issues though.....
I think it comes down to ego. If the Browns turn it around next year (which is very possible considering they play what looks to be a much weaker schedule) Holmgren probably wants all the credit.
Wich a weaker schedule and their core of good, young players it is entirely possibly the Browns can win 8 to 10 games next year. If Mangini stays he might get the credit. If Holmgren brings in his own guy then he gets all the accolades.
Honestly, I would have been fine whether Mangini stays or goes.Mangini probably has been treated unfairly, had a team with a ton of injuries and played a BRUTAL schedule (seriously, look at it) and has improved the team but bottom line, he didn't win enough games. There were really only 3 games that the Browns really were never in (both Pittsburgh games and the last Baltimore game). Had Mangini won say....2 more games I think you would have to keep him. As it was he didn't. So long as they don't bring in someone like Marty Morningwheg or Wade Phillips I'm OK with the new coach.
In case anyone thought Mangini's behavior with the Jets was the exception rather than the rule, he's certainly trying to prove otherwise. Any team looking for a coach and considering him should think again!
