NFL owners have been harping on adding 2 more regular season games up to 18. More weeks of NFL and more TV revenue.

My solution: Just add more bye weeks.

Currently NFL is set up with 1 bye week per team. To extend the regular season (hey, more football is always better right) why not give each team 2 bye weeks or heck, even 3.

So instead of a 17 week season, we now have 18 week season (2 bye weeks) or 19 week season (3 bye weeks)

So the Super Bowl will be played in late February vs early February. Teams still only play 16 games so no more additional risk of injury. TV contract goes up due to more weeks in the NFL season.

I don't see a down side to this at all.

The offseason, training camps, rest, etc., is now a month less.

16 is enough. But hey - I am caring less and less these days - so whatever...

Well we could always shorten the preseason to two games but after all these years that just isn't going to happen. My idea doesn't take away any money.

Yeah... the owners would not be where they are by purposely giving away money.

Which is why my idea is a win win win for everyone (fans, owners, TV networks)

I like this idea. Especially if allows the NFL to get rid of the Thursday night game. If they want to keep the Thursday night game they should make it so that both teams play the Thursday night game coming off of one of the bye weeks so that the team has a week and a half to recover instead of half a week.

Regarding the NFC East & AFC South this year and the NFC East & NFC South last year sometimes more football isn't always better.
