Wow! Knock me over with a feather, Bears sign Jared Allen so he stays in the north rather than Seattle which everyone was hyping! Peppers to the Packers, Allen to the Bears, NFC North games are going to be fun this year!

not really surprising to me and staying "home" in the North does make sense. Allen seems like a pretty decent guy and gives a lot of his time and money to charitable and veterans causes and has a foundation to help remodel and build homes for wounded veterans. Apparently has a 4 year/32 million contract.

The Bears swiped an aging star player for a different, aging star player.

This is an upgrade, but I'm not quite as excited as everyone else is. I guess he is ~3 years younger than Peppers so that's good. It's more money than I would've liked for him, but if you get 2 good years out of him, it will be worth it.

I hope he has a new celebration sack dance as I always hated his little cattle rope thing. It's too tame for the old stockyards. Maybe he would mock hang a cow upside down, then gut it.

Whoa! Now I really want the start of the season. To see what Jared can do in his own division. Too bad, Seattle!

I got them 11-5. As you can see I think they will have a hot start. The back to back Thursday games is very odd and all their prime time games are right next to each other. Seems like we play Dallas, NO and Carolina EVERY YEAR.

Bears pick up Jordan Lynch who went undrafted despite being a (admittedly rather optimistic) Heisman Trophy finalist. I didn't expect him to go in the first or second round but I couldn't believe nobody drafted him.

Meanwhile, another hometown hero, Jimmy Garoppolo, goes to the Patriots in the second round. I got to see him play this season, albeit in one of EIU's only two losses this season.

Speaking of which, that NIU-EIU matchup was a hell of a game, though I'm disappointed my alma mater let that game slip through their fingers after it looked at first like they were gonna steamroll NIU.
