Kenmore Mini Ultra 3/4 Size Sewing Machine 639S

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

I received this sewing machine as a gift a few years back. I instantly loved the cute blue color and the compact size of the machine. I don't sew often so it nice to have a sewing machine that doesn't take up too much space in my closet.

While this is a small sewing machine, it has plenty of power. It can easily sew almost any fabric including jean and vinyl. It isn't the fastest sewing machine, so you do have to be patient, especially if you are an experience seamstress. It also has very few options as far as stitching is concerned. There are a few straight stitches, a couple of zig zags and a buttonhole stitch. All work well and it is easy to change from one stitch to another.

This machine is also very easy to use. The bobbin filling option is on the outside of the machine, which I hadn't encountered before this machine. However, there is an easy guide displayed right on the machine to help you easily fill the bobbin. Mine came with 2 bobbins only, I wish I had a few more.

Loading the thread into the machine can be a little difficult. If you don't do it properly, the thread will instantly tangle and it can be a real mess to get everything straightened out. I have only had a couple of needles break and they are really easy to replace.

I also wish that this machine came with some sort of a cover or carrying case. I still keep mine in the box it came in, however on long projects it would be nice to leave it out without having to worry about it getting dusty.

For an inexpensive sewing machine, this is a great choice. It is small, easy to use and a great choice for those just learning to sew. I would buy my machine again.
