+Venture RX-9 Reflector Telescope

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

+Venture is somewhat of an unknown brand of telescope, but these telescopes pack quite a punch for their lower price range. The RX-9 is available for around $250 and it comes with everything you need to start an astronomy hobby, including multiple eyepieces, a Barlow lens and even a moon filter.

Right out of the box, the +Venture RX-9 is easy to put together. It took about an hour to get the pieces screwed in just right. The stand this scope comes with is very sturdy and adjustable for all heights. Don't be surprised if you're a little lost at first. This telescope has a "German Equatorial" mount, which means you have to manually find your astronautical items of interest with classical orbital elements. A downside of the manual included with this telescope is that it doesn't explain how to use German Equatorial mounts. A quick read on Google helps alleviate this, but it would have been nice to have this information in the actual telescope manual.

The eyepieces that are included inside this kit are 4 mm, 10 mm and 25 mm. The Barlow lens is a 3x lens and can be used with the 1.5x erecting eyepiece. All three come with protective covers and are very clear! The lenses within the eyepieces are top quality and come ready to serve the beginning hobbyist.

This telescope isn't only great for beginner use, it's also very nice looking. We actually keep this scope uncovered in our lounge. The RX-9's grey finish is very pleasing to look at and the design of the mount is very sturdy. This is especially important for households with small children and pets.

The only thing that's missing from this telescope is the ability to add a star finder or a camera. Most astronomy hobbyists will eventually expand to a star-finder or camera, and it would be nice to upgrade this fine telescope as you expand your hobby. Unfortunately this is not possible with its design. Still, for a budding hobbyist, this telescope is perfect to become acquainted with various astronomical objects!

Of the three models, the RX=5, RX-7, and the RX-9, is the #9 model the strongest and the #5 model the weakest? Thanks,

Just purchased the RX9 from a Habitat store. No manual or assembly instructions were included. Set-up looks a little more complicated than I expected. Does anyone have a copy of assembly instructions that we can down load or purchase? Thank you.

picked up an RX-9 reflector telescope at an auction for under $25; missing lenses and stand.
is it worth keeping or searching for missing lenses & stand?

am ready to put it on ebay if not usable
(one's up for sale on ebay with stand for $153 obo)

appreciate any feedback - am a very amateur star-gazer but would like to use it if a viable telescope
