How quickly do you think that it is possible to learn a new language? (parent)

I know a lady who went to UC Berkeley and studied linguistics. Though it seems kind of obvious, she told me two things:

1) the younger you are, the more your brain/mind/whatever is apt to pick up another language, and
2) if you grew up in a multilingual household, picking up other languages is especially easier.

Since I grew up speaking two languages, all of the other Romance languages have been extremely easy to learn.

William James Siddis claimed to be fluent in 40 languages, and could learn the basics of a language in one day, apparently.

I believe you can learn as fast as you set your mind to it. You have to be consistent. The minimum I'd say it takes is 3 years.
