I have some friends who have kids who are well through high school or have just begun college. In the 3 cases I've seen, their Facebook profiles linked to their daughters' profiles. Hence, they were obviously young females.
What I noticed in these profiles was:
a) they showed "In a relationship with" (insert name of another young girl)
b) they showed "Interested in" (Men)
I am perplexed as to why someone would post this kind of stuff for general consumption, what is really going on in these girls' heads, and what their parents think of their Facebook profiles.
Have I missed something in the last two decades? I don't have kids (no thanks). So, what is going on?
a) Having "In a relationship" with another girl is common among teens and is just typically done as a meaningless joke. Everyone applicable understands that this is not a real (intimate) relationship.
b) Facebook is a social networking site. Sharing they are interested in Men is appropriate.

It appears you've missed quite a bit.
Thank you. Since I'm their parents' approximate age and don't have kids, you can't really expect me to understand that, can you? I just assumed they were openly bisexual and wondered how that would compromise their ability to attract boys. So, thanks for putting me in my place.

Yea, I can see where you're coming from. You really have teenagers in your life to understand them... they're almost another species when it comes to social interaction.

This, I've noticed this too, but between two people who I knew were obviously straight and just friends, so I guess it's just that.
I have a daughter who has done this and I still can't figure out WHY.
I can tell you this... It ISN'T because she has parent's that don't care!
It isn't for lack of trying on her parents part. It isn't because of lack of attention from mom or Dad. It isn't for most of the reasons that people like to assume.
Maybe it just that each generation becomes more uninhibited than the previous generation. Of course I wish it weren't so, but what are you gonna do? You can't lock em' up. That's illegal.

I disagree with the first part of your comment. It appears to me that these days it is more common for girls to be either bisexual or bicurious, or perhaps this generation is just more honest and open about their experimentation. Sure, maybe some girls post this as a meaningless joke, but I think many girls aren't joking. They are in these relationships. (not saying it's right or wrong - it just is)

Compromise their ability to attract boys? are you kidding me? Sure there are some boys that will turn tail and run the other way. There are just as many boys who come along with the ol' "can I watch"? line.

Right. You see the "in a relationship with" and then you see the photo section that has a lot of photos of this particular girl.
The only daughter of two acquaintances of mine, both over-educated and the mother hypercritical*, had this in her profile and, actually, her whole profile reeked of rebellion and the flouting of tradition.
* what typically came out of her mouth was "eeew, why are you doing this or that?" so I can only imagine what her daughter had to endure...

Just as many? That would imply that 1/2 the boys out there would be future purchasers of lesbian porn. NOT.
