This therapy does not help people. I once got mad at them because I felt like they were giving me pat answers but apologized (this was by email a long time ago) and ever since, it seems like I was blacklisted. They give you no guidance or support to be able to get into the therapy.

I hate Santa Monica where their office is. I went down there last year because I was so frustrated with not finding a job in my area and needed a change. The jobs there suck, everything is overly expensive and after the first few months, it's boring. West LA is ugly and that's right nearby. The attitudes are terrible there, too. I lived there for eight months in 2013. I let the Primal Center know I was there but they offered no outreach and acted completely uninterested that I had come down there. I ended up leaving because I was unable to find a job.

So, what do I do now? I had been hinging on this therapy helping me for over ten years (I don't trust traditional therapy). Can anyone recommend another therapy as a real alternative that has worked for them? Or are we all just destined to eventually die without ever getting to work through our pain?

I've only read some of it and not gone to a professional for it, but what about cognitive behavioral therapy?

I'm looking more for something experiential instead of focused on just behavior. I guess maybe there isn't anything. Would be nice to find that, though.

I will say this about Santa Monica: They do a great job of helping out the homeless there and that's really something special. I wish the rest of the city had that kind of heart.

The sentence which I bolded is very instructive. Mature adults do not expect an organization to rally around them and give them lots of attention. It was up to you to go seek out the therapy in order to find out whether it would have been helpful in your particular case. It was not up to the Primal Center to come running at your beck and call and surround you with their support. Life does not work like that.

Yes! Cognitive Behavior Therapy is THE BEST! You learn about why you act a certain way, why certain things affect you and how to deal with it, in ways that are so simple why didn't I think of it sooner. it gives you tools to deal with thoughts and reactions and perceptions that you get and actually really makes a difference. I also feel going to a person who is a Licensed Social Worker seems more caring than a Psychiatrist or at least their approach seems more user-friendly.

There are many types of therapy and one might work for you while others just dont work for you. thats why there are 300 types of therapies. Primal therapy didn't work for you, not sure what it means, but there are many others. sometimes they work because its us that doesn't follow thru. but i guess thats why people are in therapy coz they have a problem that is sticking and has not gone away.

Primal therapy is kinda like being forced to poop even if you don't want to. That's the best description I have for it.

Oh, please. You mean to tell me that for the amount of money they're charging, they're not going to offer any support or direction in turn to get started. Pathetic.

Wow! Do you have any more information on what they're like? I'm curious. I get the feeling that the place is for elitists and that's only who they want to see.

Primal therapy sounds like exposure therapy. Heck, I could do that for free.
